Reading selections in ENG 125 focus on non-literary genres.

Non-fiction Texts in English 125

For this course, we use a common reader:

Goldthwaite, Melissa, et. al. The Norton Reader, Shorter 15th Edition. Norton, 2020. ISBN: 978-0393420531

(The table of contents is available here).

Please note when selecting readings that English 125 must include a minimum of nine (9) print and/or online reading selections. In this course, we aim to explore a range of non-fiction genres, including, for example, scholarly, journalistic, editorial, reflective, and visual texts.

One key difference between English 125 and 126 is the genre of texts students are asked to focus on. As English 126 is dedicated to literary genres, we ask that you avoid assigning texts that would be more suitable for that course (short stories, plays, etc.) in English 125.
