Private Loans
Borrowing to cover tuition and educational expenses
We understand that student loans can feel overwhelming. However, when used responsibly, borrowing may help you stay enrolled and complete your degree.
Before You Apply
We strongly recommend that you first use all available federal loan options (Subsidized and Unsubsidized Direct Loans), as they typically offer better interest rates and repayment protections.
York College does not provide a preferred lender list. You may choose any lender that participates in the private education loan program. For guidance, visit CUNY’s Private Education Loan Programs webpage.
Important Things to Consider
Before applying, review:
- Interest rates and repayment options
- Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements
- Enrollment requirements (minimum credits required by your lender)
- Loan restrictions (including past due balances)
- Rate reductions or graduation rewards
To have your loan certified by York College, you must be registered for the minimum number of credits required by your lender.
Your loan period may only cover one academic year (Summer, Fall, and Spring).
