My name is Kathleen Robbins (Class of 2004, Bachelors, Earth Science Education and Geology; Class of 2011 NYIT, Masters, Environmental Technology). I currently teach middle-school science but really enjoy high school Earth science. In addition to all the core pedagogical necessities, my education at York College prepared me to be flexible and patient (with students and admin), as well as to balance home and work to help avoid burnout. I currently mentor future Earth science teachers from the American Museum of Natural History, which I find incredibly rewarding. The York Teacher Education curriculum is very well designed; courses builds upon previous courses to give a comprehensive approach to teaching. The hours they ask you to be in the classroom are above the state requirement for a reason: the more classroom exposure you have, the better! Especially before you’re the only adult in the room!
