International Student

Welcome to the Office of International Students and Scholars (ISS). We are prepared to assist all International students in understanding their responsibilities of holding an F-1 and J-1 visa.

The International Students Services is located in room AC-1H06.

Services

  • US employment advice and authorization
  • Travel advice and authorization for entering/re-entering the United States
  • Information on Social Security cards. Advice regarding Health in the United States
  • Extension of educational stay at the college

Curricular Practical Training (CPT)

Students are eligible to work in a part-time job or internship that is off campus. During the winter break and summer vacation, students may work full time (40 hours per week).

Extension of Stay

If your I-20 program end date is expiring you need to visit your designated school official (DSO) to obtain necessary forms. Official bank statements within one year will be needed for the extension.

Medical leave/Reduced Course Load

Each international student must register full-time (12 credits) every semester, except the last semester. Before registering or dropping below a full course load, an international student must receive authorization from a Designated School Official (DSO).

Optional Practical Training (OPT)

Students may work in a full or part-time job that their academic advisor has deemed to be directly related to their academic major. OPT can take place before graduation, but is usually done afterwards.

Reinstatement

A student who has failed to maintain status may be reinstated to lawful F-1 status at the discretion of USCIS, but only under very limited conditions

Travel Signature

If you plan on traveling come into the Registrar’s Office or Admissions Office with your I-20 to see your designated school official (DSO). Students are allowed to travel when classes are not in session.
