Library Book Return

The Library now has an outdoor book drop for returning items outside the entrance to the loading dock on 160th Street.

York College Library is closed until further notice, but we will continue to provide resources, services, and consulting online. We are here to support you.

While the campus remains closed, you are not required to return any items you may have checked out. You will not accrue late fees or fines during this time. However, if you would like to return York Library books, you may do so at this time although return options are limited due to campus access restrictions. Book drop hours are Mon-Fri 9AM-5PM.

  • Library materials may be returned at the book drop outside the entrance to the loading dock on 160th Street. Campus buildings remain closed and should not be entered.
  • Please do not leave oversized items that do not fit into the book drop. Items returned after May 2020 won’t be removed from your library account until library staff are permitted to return to campus (date currently unknown). Note that all due dates will be automatically extended and late fees will be suspended during the closure. If you have any questions, please contact
  • If you are located outside the Jamaica area or unable to travel to campus, please keep any materials you have checked out for now. Returning materials by mail is not recommended at this time. When it is safe and libraries reopen, use the most convenient CUNY campus library to drop off or retrieve items.
  • For graduating students: Books and materials that remain on your library account will not affect your graduation. You may return any materials at a later date when libraries reopen, but you are not required to do so at this time.
