This document aims to help users acclimate to the improvements and modifications that we've made to editing your content with this website update.

Information for Web Content Editors

How will this upgrade affect me?

The Entire website is being redesigned, new structure, navigation, framework, and updated CMS but most of the improvements to the site are "under the hood" to make the site and system more Modern, Powerful, and User-driven this changes includes:

  • New Responsive Megamenu / Secondary Navigation - The new megamenu and Secondary(local) navigation is responsive and combined in mobile devices.
  • More Powerful Events - The new events Features: Recurring Events, Whole day events, Open end events (End on the same day), Icalendar export, Icalendar import, Timezone support, Better calendar and events portlets, An event listing and event detail view.
  • More Powerful Toolbar - Creating, editing, and managing large amounts of content is easier than ever before with Castle's newly-designed toolbar. Use drag and drop to upload and organize content effortlessly on your website. Filter content, apply tags, set publication and expiry dates, review and publish items, and grant specific permissions to users and groups, all using our powerful content management view. Need to move massive amounts of content around your site? Castle's asynchronous batch processing lets editors keep working as quickly as they need to.
  • New  Editor (Layout)- Plone Mosaic editor is a visual editor for pages rendered using Blocks. It relies on a grid system to place tiles onto a page in an intuitive, WYSIWYG, drag-and-drop manner. Using Mosaic Editor, it is easy to compose pages with complex, balanced and visually appealing layouts.  Create new layouts quickly and on a per-page basis. You can save and reuse them elsewhere on your site whenever you need to. 
  • New Editors (Web) - TinyMCE 4, the gold standard in WYSIWYG web editors. Coupled with new tools to insert links and images, it's easier than ever to craft and customize content.
  • Bulk Content Editing - Perform bulk operations to add multiple files and images at once, assign keywords, apply workflow, rename, cut, copy, and delete. Use query filters to quickly find, sort, reorder, and select specific content.
  • Social Media Integration - Content shines when you share, with its included Facebook OpenGraph meta tags and Twitter card support.
  • Enhanced UI: New toolbar, new modals, better related items widget, better image widget with cropping.
  • Focal point: Focal point support gives designers the ability to provide many image sizes without expecting their content editors to crop the images to the various target sizes. Content managers just need to select the area on the uploaded image that should be the focal point and the image will be focused automatically to that and cropped around that point on various sizes.
  • Responsive images: Scale up images to the most appropriate image size depending on the screen size of the device viewing the image. In addition, loading the larger image is only done once the image is scrolled to.
  • Recycling Bin: Users feel more safe using a recycling bin and this prevents potential issues when trying to use ZODB transaction undo.
  • Document Viewer: Integration with OCR for all uploaded files.
  • Tiles for your layout!: Support for many different tiles: Audio, Video, Calendar, Document Viewer, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Gallery, Slider, Navigation, Query Listing, Sharing, Search, Maps and more.
  • Quality check: Let users know if they forgot the summary text or are publishing content that is linked to provide images or content.
  • HTML5 Video: Auto convert video to HTML5 compatible format.
  • New Design Menu- you can set each individual page's design, or you can set a default design for sections of a site, or both.
  • Analytics - You can view realtime, historical and social data of all your content.
  • Preview - If one of your pages doesn’t look right, you can find out before it’s too late. Page Preview allows you to see what your published pages will look like while they’re still private, which could save you lots of embarrassment.
  • Accessible - We continues to fulfill the promise of maximizing the user experience by ensuring full accessibility compliance to the highest standards with support for WCAG 2.0 (level AA), WAI-ARIA, and ATAG 2.0.
  • Social Media Integration - Content shines when you share, with its included Facebook OpenGraph meta tags and Twitter card support.
  • Multilingual - Plone 5 is multilingual out of the box. Its user interface comes with more than 40 language translations and tools to add new translations.
  • Cross Site Request Forgery Protection - Security is never an afterthought. this upgrade includes automatic CSRF (cross-site request forgery) protection and is the only content management system with CSRF protection integrated into the database layer. This automatic protection extends to the add-ons installed on your site. Combined with its default use of the ZODB, a NoSQL database, Plone 5 is neither subject to SQL injection attacks nor vulnerable through less-carefully crafted add-ons, both are common attack vectors against other content management systems.
  • Chameleon Templating Engine - Plone 5 sites are 15%-20% faster now with the new Chameleon templating engine, a fully backwards-compatible replacement that works with existing templates.

More Powerful Events

The new events content type Features:

  • Recurring Events,
  • Whole day events,
  • Open end events (End on the same day),
  • Icalendar export,
  • Icalendar import,

How to use it:
Adding Recurrence begins by setting the first appearance of the event in the start/end date, then click add located before save, a new modal pop-up will appear. This modal will give you the options:

  • Repeats Daily, monday and friday, weekdays, weekly, monthly, yearly
  • Repeat every # days
  • End recurrence after # of occurrence(s) or until date
  • Selected dates allows you to view all the dates it is Repeats and arbitrary delete dates from the list
  • Add date allows you to arbitrary dates to the recurrence

New toolbar

Creating, editing, and managing large amounts of content is easier than ever before with Castle's newly-designed toolbar. Use drag and drop to upload and organize content effortlessly on your website. Filter content, apply tags, set publication and expiry dates, review and publish items, and grant specific permissions to users and groups, all using our powerful content management view.

Need to move massive amounts of content around your site? Castle's asynchronous batch processing lets editors keep working as quickly as they need to.

The toolbar goes full width with your personal tools, setting, and notifications as well as vertically on the left side of the screen with the tools you need to manage your content.

  • View - it shows you what people see when they go to the current item.
  • Manage Content - The content tab has been improved and is fully functional, it allows you do batch changes including uploading multiple files, renaming, tagging, move, cut, delete, rearrange and workflow state.
  • Add - allows you to add new content.
  • Edit - it will allow you do create beautiful layouts in an intuitive, WYSIWYG, drag-and-drop manner. Using Mosaic Editor, it is easy to compose pages with complex, balanced and visually appealing layouts (not enable on all content types). Create new layouts quickly and on a per-page basis. You can save and reuse them elsewhere on your site whenever you need to. Add columns as tiles that you can drag and drop into place.
  • State - the state tab will show you the current state of the item you are viewing as allowing to transition the item.
  • Design - you can set each individual page's design, or you can set a default design for sections of a site, or both.
  • Sharing - you can share your access to the current item with other using this tab.
  • History - you can view the history of the current item, compare it to other versions and revert back to a particular version if necessary.

  • Check out - On check-out, a working copy of the content item will be created in the selected container, and the original will be locked to prevent other users from editing it.

New Layout Editor

Plone Mosaic is a new layout solution for Plone.

Mosaic editor is a visual editor for pages rendered using Blocks. It relies on a grid system to place tiles onto a page in an intuitive, WYSIWYG, drag-and-drop manner. Using Mosaic Editor, it is easy to compose pages with complex, balanced and visually appealing layouts.

The Mosaic Editor has been set as the default for new Pages content type.

How to use it:

  • check-out (for published content only) From the toolbar click "checkout", select "check-out". a private working copy of the page will be created and the original will be locked.
  • From the toolbar click "edit". the Mosaic Editor will load.
  • on the top of the page, from left to right, you will see properties, layout, cancel and save.
  • there are some predefined layouts that you can choose from but in order to take full advantage of the mosaic editor you should select "customize".
  • When a custom layout is activated, you will see "Format" and "insert" on the upper left side of the screen.
  • Insert - allows you to add new block including Structural, media, advance, fields, social and properties elements. click on the element you want to add and drop it where you want it.
  • rows can have up to 4 columns, and the number of columns can vary from row to row.
  • Blocks have a delete on the lower right corner and/or edit for fine editing/tuning of the block properties.
  • if you want to rearrange your element just drag it to the desired position.
  • Images Block - when you click "insert", "image" an overlay box will open to allow you to upload, add alternative text, and select the size of the image. when you click on "save" you will be able to drop it in the desired location.
  • when you are done making your changes, just click save.
