Hello! Thank you for your interest in the Pharmaceutical Science and Business Master Program at CUNY York College.

This program is designed to give the skills required for employment in:

  • Pharmaceutical companies
  • Cosmetic companies
  • Biotech companies
  • Government and international agencies, such as the Food and Drug Adm.

Some opportunities it can lead to is quality assurance, quality control, pre-formulation and formulation of dosage forms, or if you're interested in the regulatory aspect, there are courses to be a regulatory officer. If you're interested in more business aspect of the pharmaceutical industry, then there are courses that will provide management and business background.

In this program, each student will have to take 24 credits of core courses, such as Advanced Pharmacology, Advance Biostatics, and Foundations of Regulatory Affairs. You also need to take 12 credits of elective courses, such as Biotherapeutics, Design of Clinical Trials, and Advanced Toxicology.

Students are expected to choose elective courses based on their career goals. So if your interest is in pharmaceutical research and development you'll be taking courses such as Advanced Pharmaceutics and Advanced Toxicology. If your interest is in Regulation of Pharmaceutics you'll be taking courses such as International Regulatory Affairs and Writing and Submission of Regulatory Applications. Lastly, if you are interested in Pharmaceutical Management, courses that you'll be taking is Pharmaceutical Product Management and Pharmaceutical Marketing.

There are a number of internships and connections in this program. One required core course is a capstone project. You can research with the faculty at York College or, based on availability, you can intern at the Food the Drug Administration, which is across the street from the College. There is a strong relationship between the FDA and York College. Some faculty members work as consultants at the FDA. And some FDA scientists teach at York College as well.

Some quick facts about the program:
It can be completed in 1 and a half to 2 years.
For tuition, it is $5,225 per semester for NY state residents. There is financial aid available.
Students can attend full time or part-time. All courses are in the afternoon or evening.

These are the faculty members that you will be working with:

  • Dr. Desmaero: Researchers and collaborates with Einstein Medical School
  • Dr. Charkravarti: worked at Wyeth (or now Pfizer) for years. He is extensive industry experience.
  • Dr. Musumeci: Worked at Wyeth and consults at the FDA
  • Dr. Fay: Collaborates with Mount Sinai
  • Dr. Chang Collaborates with Rockefeller University.

  • Dr. Olajide: is from the Business Department and teaches the Business Courses
  • Dr. Profit: worked a couple of years at Merck
  • Dr. Small: Collaborates with Brookhaven National Lab

All faculty members are qualified with years of experience in the field.

The basic Admission requires are:

An earned bachelor's degree in Pharmaceutical Science, Biotech (Biotechnology), Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology or other closely related disciplines from an accredited institution.
Successful candidates must have:

Required Courses

  • General Chemistry I and II
  • Biology I and II
  • Organic Chemistry I
  • University Physics I
  • Calculus I

There are additional courses that are preferred:

  • Organic Chemistry II
  • Biochemistry
  • Physical Chemistry I (Thermodynamics)
  • Basic Pharmacology

However, Conditional acceptance may be offered to candidates that do not have preferred courses

  • A minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0
  • We accept students for the Fall and Spring Semester. You must submit an application to York College with:
    • A personal statement (not more than 1,500 words)
    • Three letters of recommendation
    • A current resume
    • Official transcript(s) from all universities and colleges attended
    • A nonrefundable $125 application fee payable by check or money order to York College

For those whose first language is not English and were educated in a country where English is not the official language, must take the TOEFL or IELTS.

If you earned your Bachelor's degree outside the US, your college transcripts must also be evaluated from a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES)
