Turnitin in Bb via LTI

1. Go to Assignments or any other content page in your course.
2. Click "Build Content" and then "Turnitin LTI 1.3"
3. Fellow the guide on Assignment Settings to set up Turnitin basic settings.
4. Follow the guide on Optional LTI Settings to set up options.

Note:

• After a Turnitin assignment is created in Bb, it automatically triggers the adaptive release. All it does is add an assignment starting date in the adaptive release rule. It is available to all students unless you select specific students in the adaptive release membership rules. If you want to change the Start Date, you can edit the Adaptive Release.

• To delete a Turnitn assignment, after deleting the assignment link, you will also need to delete the grade column for this assignment in the Grade Center. It'll not be removed automatically.

How to modify the assignment settings depends on what property of the assignment you want to modify.

To modify the Instructions, Feedback Release Date and Optional Settings

Click the assignment link to get into the assignment.

Then click the gear icon on the top right.

If you wish, you could modify the Grade point value here, too.

To modify the assignment Name, Grade Point Value and Due Date

Click the down arrow next to the assignment name and then select Edit.

To modify the assignment Start Date

The assignment Start Date is when students can start to submit their assignments.

Click the down arrow next to the assignment name and then select "Adaptive Release."

On the "Adaptive Release" page, change the Date and/or Time for "Display After." Click Submit to save the change.

About file types and size

Turnitin assignments can accept several files types including doc, Docx, pdf, and accept files of size not exceeding 100 MB. For more detailed information on the file types and sizes, check out the File Types and Size web page.

We recommend that you access the papers submitted by students and grade them from the Turnitin assignment link as shown below.

You will be directed to the "Assignment Inbox." Review the Turnitin's Assignment Inbox page to familiarize yourself with the icons.

On the "Assignment Inbox" page, click the paper title of a student's submission. The Feedback Studio page will be open where you can access the similarity report and comment on the paper. Annotating and grading the assignment on the Feedback Studio are similar as they were before. Some minor changes are self-explanatory. PeerMark assignments enable students to review peers' papers based on your guiding questions or rubrics.

Overview of the basic stages of the peer review process

To create a PeerMark assignment, you can simply enable it when creating the paper assignment that will be reviewed by peers.

1. Go to a content page such as Assignments in your course.
2. Click "Build Content" and then "Turnitin LTI."
3. On the assignment setting page, check the box "Enable PeerMark."
4. You will first set up the paper assignment with appropriate start, due, and feedback release dates, as well as the optional settings. If you need more guidance, check out the tutorials for "Creating a Turnitin Assignment" above.
5. Add a column in the Grade Center for the PeerMark assignment. It will not be added automatically.

7. Setting up a PeerMark assignment  - Important Note: do not allow students to self-select papers to review. Otherwise, you will have to deal with the possibility that some students' papers are reviewed by many peers but others may not have anyone to review.
8. Adding PeerMark questions that students will answer when they review peers' papers.
9. Pairing students You can manually pair students to do peer review, in addition to letting Turnitin to randomly assign papers.

To access, review and grade a PeerMark assignment, click the assignment link. Then click PeerMark tab and select "PeerMark Reviews."

Note: after you grade the PeerMark assignments, you will need to manually transfer the grades to the corresponding column in the Grade Center. They will not be filled in automatically.

Can papers submitted after the base paper due date be included in the peer review?

If you would allow papers submitted after the due date to be reviewed by peers, make sure that the following setting is selected.

On the Turnitin base paper assignment setting page, expand "Optional Settings" and check the box next to "Allow late submissions."

Now a paper submitted by a student to the base paper assignment after the due date will be reviewed as long as a peer starts the review after the time of the late submission and before the due date of the PeerMark assignment.

Why can't I assign a grade to the PeerMark assignment?

If the option to award full points for a written review is not selected in PeerMark assignment creation, you will be able to assign a grade only after the peer review due date has passed.
