Description of programs and courses in the Accounting and Finance Department

Accounting Program Description

The faculty at York College's Department of Accounting and Finance aims to provide students with theoretical and practical tools in the areas of accounting, business, and economics. The coursework is designed to prepare students for the Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination, careers in public or private accounting as well as graduate and law school.

York College's B.S. in accounting includes all the educational requirements to sit for the CPA examination in New York State. Students who wish to sit for the examination in another state should consult the appropriate state board of accountancy. Becoming a CPA requires passing a national exam and meeting other state requirements. Almost all states require CPA candidates to complete 150 semester hours of college coursework to be certified--30 hours more than the usual 4-year bachelor's degree.
