Faculty Publication Workshop

The Office of Academic Affairs invites applications from full-time York College faculty (tenured, tenure-track, and lecturers) to participate in a 2024-2025 Faculty Publication Workshop.

Submission Process

The Faculty Publication Workshop is a year-long faculty development seminar designed to assist York College faculty in their scholarly writing, from proposal to publication. The workshop will enable faculty scholars to develop their current academic writing projects, whether they are books, articles, book chapters, or other scholarly pursuits, intended for publication in peer-reviewed journals, academic presses, or other scholarly venues. Providing a structured, disciplined environment, the workshop is an opportunity for participants to support one another in various writing stages and phases of publication preparation through constructive criticism and exchange. The workshop welcomes applications from full-time faculty in all disciplines and departments, including the library.

Workshop participants will meet once a month, in person, for two hours on Tuesdays, 2:00-4:00, from September 2024 to May 2025, excluding January. At each meeting, participants will discuss each other’s work and offer written and oral feedback based on a guided peer review process.

The workshop’s purpose is to create a collaborative community in which colleagues commit to supporting each other through careful reading of drafts, peer discussion, and, very importantly, written comments. The focus of the workshop is for participants to get feedback on their writing. Additionally, we will discuss identifying publication venues, the submission process, the revising process, and interacting with editors.

The workshop will be led by Dr. Linda M. Grasso (English).

Six applicants will be chosen by the Faculty Publications Workshop Committee, an interdisciplinary group of York College faculty scholars, who will also serve as publication mentors and consultants.

Participants in the Faculty Publication Workshop are encouraged to apply for a York College Strategic Initiatives Grant to support their scholarly projects.
