Tripping

Dear Cardinals,

I recently went on a shopping trip for one thing.  I had a clear plan, just get a white blouse.  That’s it.  In and out.

But then… I saw a belt I liked and a blouse in my favorite color. And they had my size.

So, I couldn’t leave it there.  I head to the checkout line and it only gets worse.

A phone charging cord… My current one is about to give out.
Socks that look comfortable … and  they are cute!
May favorite perfume and chocolate covered almonds.  All in the cart. SMH
And I am saying to myself how did I come for one thing and leave with all of this?

College can be a lot like that.

You may have come to York knowing exactly what you wanted to major in. Business. Psychology. Nursing. Education. Biology. Something very specific. One thing.

But along the way, you’re asked to take classes in writing, history, math, science, art, sociology, philosophy—courses you didn’t plan for and but courses that broaden your horizons.

And you may have even questioned yourself:
“Why do I need this?” “How does this connect to my major?”

Here’s the truth: Your general education or liberal arts and elective courses sharpen and deepen how you think, how you write, how you communicate, how you see the world—and how you see yourself. They stretch you. They prepare you. They give you tools you’ll reach for long after graduation, even if you don’t realize it right now; so trust the process.

You will leave York with more than a degree.
You will leave prepared for life.

And that’s always worth the trip.

Have a great week!
