Catching Zebras

Dear Cardinals,

There’s an African proverb that says, “Not everyone who chased the zebra caught it, but he who caught it, chased it.” I love this reminder because it speaks to something we all experience: effort doesn’t always guarantee the outcome we want—but nothing meaningful happens without effort. Success isn’t about perfection; it’s about movement, persistence, and being willing to keep going even when the path feels unpredictable.

On Saturday, I was at our men’s basketball game against John Jay, and if you were there, you know it was electric. The energy was high, and our team showed up and showed out. John Jay may have taken the win, but they had to fight for every point—because York made them work for it.

Shout out to the Men's Basketball Team!  We didn't prevail; but that setback is just a setup for a comeback.

Our team will be back on the court next semester, but right now Cardinals, you heading into your 5th week of classes.  The weather is a mess, we are tired of snow,  you probably have more reading to do and the work is getting harder.  I know it is easy to fall back or fall off completely... but this is not the time for you to lose momentum.  Stay in the game, stay in motion and keep chasing your goals... until you catch them.

You got this!
