Health Education PreK-12

The Health Education major is designed to prepare students to teach health education in grades PreK-12.

Students in our program learn to assess needs to determine priorities for school health education, plan effective school education curricula and programs, communicate and advocate for health and school health education, and more.

Students receive hands-on preparation through 100 hours of fieldwork and 300 hours of student teaching in PreK–12 school settings. These hours are completed through the education and pedagogy courses within the programs.

Through combined health science knowledge and educational practice, students can prepare for New York State teacher certification.

Students majoring in Health Education are equipped to enter graduate programs in health education and related fields, or to start working as school health educators, promoting lifelong health habits in diverse school communities.
