Mission Statement 

In 2018, The Buildings & Grounds Department will strive and continue to construct, improve and modernizing the York College facilities in many areas for our students to enhance their learning experience. We will accomplish this by upgrading facilities such as lab classrooms, the Nursing Department, the Arts in the form of exhibits and many classrooms are scheduled for makeovers to smart classrooms.

Our building and the equipment within our facilities are our assets to our students and we are committed to giving the best possible, facilities and equipment to enhance our student’s ability to succeed.

Goals 2018

  1. Construct and configure campus space that enables interactive learningIn 2018, we will continue to develop new learning spaces into smart classrooms. Currently, ten classrooms are slated for renovation and upgrades. These renovations include updating the classroom to a smart room with projector screens, podiums, upgrade lighting and refinish the ceiling and walls.
  2. Upgrade the technological infrastructures to enhance faculty and administrative productivity.All members of the Department will operate from a customer oriented and service-based perspective through the Archibus Work Order System. Our team will consistently deliver quality, excellence, professionalism, and integrity. We will work closely with Campus Planning to develop those areas on campus with the most potential to attract new students.
  3. Integrate sustainability across the campusThe Building and Grounds Department is entrusted with the care of accomplishing an effective and efficient operation of the resources, buildings, utilities, systems (facilities and eco/environmental), and campus grounds. We will promote sustainability campus-wide in using the same light fixtures and same size motors frames and energy efficient bulbs campus-wide.
  4. Promote York College as a destination for learning and the artsThe Buildings and Grounds Department is a service organization tasked with operating and maintaining all York College facilities and seven buildings in the heart of Jamaica, Queens. In support of York College’s mission for 2018, the department is committed to maintaining an environment that inspires and enriches the total educational experience for all members of the campus community.
