Fellow

There are three tiers of the Honors Program, these are the requirements and description for the Fellow track.

The York Fellow track is the service concentrated track of the York Honors Program.

The goal of the honors program is to give all students the opportunity to excel. We believe that in order to be an honors student you have to have certain qualities, experiences, and GPA. If accepted to the honors program as a cadet, you will be able to start to fulfill all the requirements of the program while also raising your GPA. We know this is a difficult task, which is why we will stay by your side to help you, just like any other honors student. As a cadet, you can take honors courses and start research with professors, in order to fulfill all the requirements, but in order to graduate through the honors program, you must have at least a 3.5 GPA at the time of your graduation. 

The current members of the York Fellow (3.5 GPA) track can maintain their Honors status as Cadet even if their GPA drop below the required GPA of 3.5. Those students can continuously accumulate their requirements of the track toward graduation while trying to regain their GPA over 3.5.

New Incoming students must fulfill the requirement below to receive an honors degree. 

  • maintain a GPA of 3.5 or above
  • conduct mentored research (at least three semesters) and present at a professional conference (see Important Forms and Deadlines on Blackboard)
  • Students that cannot find research with a faculty, must take a minimum of 3 semesters of 490 or higher within their major. With the faculty's approval, they must summarize the 3 semesters' worth of data within a poster. 
  • take three Honors courses and receive B or better grade
  • minimum 75 service hours per semester
  • attend Honors Seminars
  • attend at least one academic event per month (see Event Tracking Checklist on Blackboard)

 

Students who cannot meet the current requirements regarding the research presentation, they need to apply for  Honors Series

Students that are attending the Honors Series, their committee member and mentor needs to be in the seminar. Student's presentation needs to be peer reviewed by their committee member before they can attend the Honors Series.
