Eligibility requirements, funding details, application materials, and deadlines for Study Abroad

Students can apply to the College Association for up to 60% of eligible expenses, with a maximum award of $3,000. Funding is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis and is contingent upon the availability of funds and a completed application. Along with exploring scholarships and meeting with Financial Aid, students are encouraged to seek additional funding to offset remaining travel-related expenses. Funding is limited to one study abroad experience per academic year (August-July). Students may receive funding for a maximum of two study abroad experiences during their enrollment at York College. Study Away programs must receive prior approval from the appropriate academic department. Upon their return, award recipients must submit a written report and present their study abroad experience to the York College Association.

Submit the following materials through the Study Abroad College Association Application. Review the instruction for each criterion below prior to completing the form. Incomplete applications or applications missing any required materials will not be considered.

Applicants who submit false or misleading information will be disqualified from consideration and may be subject to disciplinary action and/or legal consequences.

All participants must provide proof of travel insurance and sign the CUNY International Travel Participation, Waiver and Emergency Contact Form which should be provided by your faculty member. Contact Shayla Pruitt, Academic Study Abroad Program Manager, at Spruitt@york.cuny.edu for a recommended travel insurance option. If the waiver has already been submitted to the study abroad program, a copy may be provided.

November 1 – Winter travel
December 1 – Spring travel
April 1 – Summer travel
May 1 – Fall travel

Narrative

A 300-word narrative statement describing how your Study Abroad/Study Away experience would enhance your overall educational experience. (Narrative must be typed in Times Roman font size 12 and must be double-spaced). Maximum file size is 4MB

Recommendation

A letter of recommendation from a York College faculty, a vice president, dean or unit head, who is familiar with your educational experience at the college. Maximum file size is 4MB

Transcript

An unofficial York College transcript. Transcripts will be verified by the selection committee. Maximum file size is 4MB

Waiver

A signed Waiver and Release Form and proof of travelers’ insurance (Study Abroad only) are required. If a Waiver and Release Form has already been submitted to the Study Abroad/Study Away program you will be attending, a copy of the waiver will suffice; if not, please include an original waiver with your application. Study Away Documentation

Students must provide printed documentation of acceptance about the Study Abroad/Study Away opportunity (and any other relevant details etc.). Maximum file size is 4MB
