Dr. Virginia L. Thompson is an Associate Professor in the Mathematics & Computer Science Department at York College. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from York College and completed her Master of Arts and doctoral degrees in Mathematics Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. Professor Thompson coordinates all General Education mathematics courses at York, overseeing faculty orientation, curriculum alignment, syllabus updates, textbook selection, instructional technology training (including online instruction), and academic advisement support. She serves on the General Education Assessment Committee, where she helps conduct and oversee assessment activities for General Education courses. She also supervises Supplemental Instruction, an academic support program for precalculus courses. Her research interests include online teaching and learning, educational technology, artificial intelligence in education, Open Educational Resources (OER), open pedagogy, computer algebra systems, and Supplemental Instruction.
