New Online Community Health Education Program

Coming this Fall: 100% Online Bachelor’s in Community Health at York

A longstanding in-person undergraduate degree in Community Health is now available entirely online, offering greater flexibility and accessibility for students across the country.

The program, offered fully online through the York College, CUNY School of Health and Professional Programs, meets the growing demand for flexibility and convenience among adults pursuing higher education and will launch in fall 2025.

“As Chair of the Department of Health and Human Performance at York College/CUNY, I’m thrilled to announce that our well-established Community Health Education program is now offered in a fully online, asynchronous format,” said Dr. Nicholas Grosskopf, “This new modality makes it easier than ever for students whether they’re working full time, raising families, or living outside New York City to access the same high-quality curriculum and dedicated faculty support that have defined our program for years. The flexibility of asynchronous learning means students can engage with coursework on their own schedule, without sacrificing personal or professional commitments.”

Graduates of the program are well-prepared to make meaningful contributions to the field of public health in a variety of settings, including community-based organizations, government agencies, and healthcare institutions.

“Students are also eligible to sit for the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) exam, and many go on to pursue graduate degrees in public health or other health science fields,” Dr. Grosskopf added. “We’re proud to offer a pathway that’s not only affordable and accessible, but also rooted in our mission to prepare diverse public health leaders ready to advance health equity in their communities.”

Dr. Maureen Becker, interim associate provost and former Dean of the School of Health Sciences and Professional Programs, is pleased with this latest development. "This is one of the first of many Majors at York to now be offered as part of the CUNY Online Initiative (fully online, asynchronous format), with many more to come,” she said.

The dean added, “Our goal always being, student first, meeting students where they are. And having the foresight to know, Higher Education is changing, and we need to be part of the change."
