DASNY President Robert Rodriguez Reviews Progress on York College Infrastructure Projects

Campus Projects to Transform Student Experience and Modernize Facilities at Queens Institution

 DASNY President and CEO Robert J. Rodriguez and York College President Dr. Claudia V. Schrader toured York College in Queens this week to review multiple ongoing infrastructure projects designed to enhance the student experience and modernize campus facilities. 

DASNY, the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York, is currently managing several projects York, with active projects in design and construction totaling over $200 million. This investment demonstrates DASNY’s ongoing to commitment to supporting colleges across the City University of New York (CUNY) system.

"York College stands as a vital anchor for southeastern Queens, empowering students to build better futures for themselves and their families,” said DASNY President & CEO Robert J. Rodriguez. “Our partnership with York is about creating spaces where students can thrive and achieve their dreams. These improvements aren’t just about buildings – they’re about opening doors of opportunity and investing in the next generation of New York’s leaders. I want to thank President Schrader and her staff for their leadership and vision in advancing these projects that will strengthen the foundation of this institution for decades to come.” 

"The visit with President Rodriguez was productive and very informative. We had the opportunity to showcase the work being done by DASNY and discuss future projects,” said Dr. Claudia Schrader, President of York College. “Among the highlights of President Rodriguez’s visit was his opportunity to meet and engage with members of the college’s Student Government Association.  We are particularly grateful for DASNY's contributions and look forward to our continued partnership as we work to enhance our campus facilities to better serve our students and community.”

The tour included visits to several active construction sites across campus:

  • Track & Field Upgrade:
    This project includes installation of a new scoreboard and construction of a security booth. 
  • Performing Arts Center Upgrades
    This investment includes both HVAC system modernization to improve air quality and energy efficiency, along with substantial interior renovations featuring electrical upgrades, theatre improvements and elevator modernization to enhance this vital campus venue.
  • Academic Core Building Improvements
    Multiple projects including a roof replacement project and an upcoming cold water piping replacement initiative. DASNY also recently completed renovation of the cafeteria with new furniture, kitchen equipment, and flooring.
  • Health and Physical Education Building
    This project includes bathroom upgrades to improve accessibility in the men’s and women’s facilities, enhancing the building’s functionality for all campus users.

Established in 1966 and opening its doors in 1967, York College is part of the City University of New York (CUNY) system serving approximately 8,000 students in Jamaica, Queens.
