Dr. Virginia L. Thompson earned her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from York College in 1998, establishing a strong foundation for her graduate studies at Teachers College (TC), Columbia University. She completed her Master of Arts in Mathematics Education at TC in 2000 and went on to earn her doctoral degree in Mathematics Education in 2009. Dr. Thompson currently coordinates all General Education Mathematics courses. In this role, she orients new faculty to the curriculum, updates syllabi, selects textbooks, provides training and best practices for teaching with technology, including online instruction, and supports academic advisement. She also serves on the General Education Assessment Committee, helping to conduct and oversee assessment activities for General Education courses. In addition, Dr. Thompson supervises Supplemental Instruction for precalculus courses, an academic support program designed to strengthen student learning and success. Her research interests include online teaching and learning, educational technology, artificial intelligence in education, Open Educational Resources (OER), open pedagogy, computer algebra systems, and Supplemental Instruction.
