Dr. Thitima Srivatanakul is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at York College, City University of New York (CUNY). She received her Ph.D. in Computer Science in 2005 and her M.Sc. in Software Engineering in 2001, both from the University of York, United Kingdom. Her doctoral dissertation, Security Analysis with Deviational Techniques, was supervised by Professor John A. Clark and Dr. Fiona Polack. She also holds a B.Eng. in Computer Engineering from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand.
Her research interests include cybersecurity and cybersecurity education, machine learning, computer science education, game-based learning, web development, ethical hacking, and software engineering. She is currently the Principal Investigator of the NSF-funded CISE Research Program at York College and has served as PI on several other externally funded initiatives, including the NSF S-STEM Scholarship Program and the NSA/NSF-funded GenCyber Program at York College.
Dr. Srivatanakul has also been actively involved in student success and STEM pathway programs. Since 2020, she has served as a co-associate director of the New York State Education Department-funded STEP Program at York College and currently also serves as a co-associate director of the CSTEP Program.
Through her work across grant-funded programs, undergraduate research, mentoring, and student project development, she helped support the establishment of the Undergraduate Computing Research Center (UCRC) within the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and currently serves as its Director. The UCRC provides a central space for students to participate in undergraduate research, develop computing projects, collaborate with faculty and peers, build technical and professional skills, and prepare for graduate study and careers in computing and related fields.
Her broader work focuses on creating opportunities for students to move beyond the classroom through research, internships, interdisciplinary projects, and professional development, while also exploring how emerging technologies such as AI can be used effectively and responsibly in education and computing research.
