The design and synthesis of novel glycosides and carbohydrate derivatives led to the preparation of new ribofuranosides incorporating the enediyne moiety. The preparation of the ribofuranosides provided a better mechanistic understanding of the stereochemical control at the ribose anomeric center. The prepared ribofuranosides incorporate naturally occurring templates (ribose, enediyne) in order to combine their properties and potentially mimic theirs biological activity.
