The York College Department of Business and Economics offers six undergraduate programs: Aviation Management, Business Administration, Economics, Human Resource Management, Information Systems Management, and Marketing, as well as one Master's program in Aviation Management, two certificate programs, and nine minors.
Mission
The Business and Economics Department faculty aims to create knowledge and develop ethical leaders and entrepreneurs who will build enterprises that create value for stakeholders and society. The Department achieves this through our degree programs in Aviation Management, Business Administration, Economics, Human Resource Management, Marketing, and Information Systems Management. The Department of Business and Economics' mission is congruent with the York College Vision and Mission.
Goals
Business Administration
Goal 1: To provide a cross-disciplinary perspective and be able to integrate knowledge across business disciplines in the various areas of Business Administration
Identify and articulate the problems facing companies and the issues that management needs to address
Analyze a company’s situation and utilize the concepts and tools of strategic analysis, using a multidisciplinary approach
Recommend practical and detailed actions with supporting arguments for business issues
Goal 2: Students demonstrate knowledge in the various areas of Business including: Economics, Marketing, Statistics, Computer Applications in Business, Business Law, International Business, Business Ethics and the capstone course Strategic Management which integrates all of these courses.
Demonstrate basic knowledge in the major fields of Business Administration including: Economics, Marketing, Statistics, Computer Applications in Business, Business Law, International Business, Business Ethics and the capstone course Strategic Management.
Goal 3: To demonstrate an ability to interpret, document and communicate relevant information effectively, in writing and verbally to a business audience and customers

Summarize and display information for business reporting by using word processing software, spreadsheets, databases and presentation software.
BA Economics
Goal 1: To provide our students with appropriate analytical skills to be able to analyze economic problems and to make use of those skills in their future careers
Apply economic reasoning to assess and understand the behavior of individuals as consumers and producers in a variety of contexts, and to evaluate the impact of policy proposals.
Apply economic analysis to evaluate every day and specific policy proposals.
Compare two or more arguments that have different conclusions to a specific issue or problem.
Understand the use and role of assumptions in modelling arguments.
Goal 2: To help students acquire knowledge and develop deeper critical and quantitative thinking skills and apply problem-solving skills to complex problems.
Understand and interpret economic data and how to use empirical evidence to appraise an economic argument and problem.
Be familiar with statistical concepts and should acquire empirical skills that allow them to both perform and critically assess statistical analyses of economic issues.
Conduct appropriate statistical analysis of data, by accessing or collecting data, forming hypotheses, and setting up formal econometric models that allow the data to be used to assess these hypotheses.
Possess a working knowledge of information data bases.
Goal 3: To enable students, apply their knowledge of economics to problems of public policy and thus become more effective and informed citizens.
Be able to understand theoretical models, and to use them to solve problems under well-specified assumptions, both at the abstract level and as they are applied to specific fields within economics.
Propose solutions for problems that do not have clear answers and indicate under what conditions they may be viable solutions.
Be able to explain and evaluate the relevant benefits and costs to consider when comparing decision options and policy choices.

BS Human Resource Management

Goal 2: Students will develop the ability to analyze business requirements to determine appropriate information systems solutions using current and emerging technologies.
Integrate knowledge across business disciplines and computer science and demonstrate competency in the various areas of Information Systems Management.
Identify and analyze user needs and take them into account in the selection, creation, evaluation and administration of computer-based systems, activities, and identify conflict of interest situations and other situations that compromise business integrity.

BS Marketing
Goal 1: Students demonstrate understanding of basic knowledge and its application in marketing as well as various fields of business in a viewpoint of a cross-disciplinary perspective.

Students demonstrate understanding basic knowledge in the various business areas including: computer applications in business, economics, statistics, and strategic management.

Students demonstrate an ability to understand the process of collecting, analyzing and interpreting information appropriately in order to make informed marketing decisions.

Students understand current marketing trends in online and assess them by applying relevant theories and frameworks.

Grade of "C" or higher in each Business and Economics course or a minimum GPA of 2.0.
