Bachelor of Science, Social Work Graduating Class ‘2020
In honor of Social Work Month, I want to take a moment to reflect on my journey and celebrate the impact of this profession! Since graduating from York College in 2020, I’ve been on a transformative path in social work, growing as a leader, clinician, and future educator.
I began my career as a Case Manager Supervisor, developing supervisory and clinical skills while working with diverse populations, including individuals who were incarcerated, experiencing homelessness, and managing co-occurring diagnoses. While working, I pursued my LMSW, utilizing York’s licensing boot camp for support. With the strong foundation York provided, I passed my exam on the first attempt in July 2021, leading to a transition into medical social work.
Through my experiences, I realized my passion for both teaching and systemic change. This led me to begin my Doctorate of Social Work (DSW) at the University at Buffalo in September 2023. The fully online program allows me to balance work and studies, and I am now halfway through, actively drafting my capstone proposal, preparing for IRB submission, and networking with stakeholders to implement meaningful interventions.
Amidst my doctoral journey, I also dedicated time to studying for my LCSW exam—once again using York’s boot camp materials. In January 2025, I passed on my first attempt. None of these accomplishments would have been possible without the foundation I built at York College. At York, I felt seen, heard, and empowered to find my purpose.
This Social Work Month, I want to express gratitude for the faculty, mentors, and peers who have been part of my journey. Social work is more than a career—it’s a calling. I’m proud to be part of a profession that uplifts, advocates, and transforms lives.
