During her educational journey at CUNY York College, Scholar Lavern made a significant impact as the Publicity Coordinator for the York College Social Work Empowering & Encouraging Together (S.W.E.E.T.) Club. In this role, she was instrumental in raising awareness and promoting the club’s mission and events within the campus community. Additionally, she attended the Annual Legislative Action Day in Albany, NY. She participated in the Wellness Wednesday annual Depression Screening at York College, demonstrating her commitment to advocacy and mental health awareness.
“York College also provided the opportunity to attend the summer boot camp, which opened my eyes to the next step in my career. Obtaining my LMSW has unlocked opportunities for me and given me the freedom to explore entrepreneurship. One day in Social Work 101 class, Dr. Selena T. Rodgers said, 'It’s how you work your degree.' I will be forever grateful for the foundation in social work York gave me, and I aspire to inspire and support future Cardinals in the same way I was supported.”
