Fatima Mabrouk, MSW
Bachelor of Science, Social Work Graduating Class ‘2017
Fatima Mabrouk became a member of the York College Social Work Empowering & Encouraging Together (S.W.E.E.T.) Club in Fall 2014 and was soon appointed as a YC Student Ambassador. In Fall 2015, she was nominated and elected as President of the S.W.E.E.T. Club, a role she held until her graduation in May 2017.
During her time as President of the S.W.E.E.T. Club, she actively prepared the members for lobbying visits with assemblymembers to advocate for loan forgiveness and further support for the program and the social work profession. In preparation, Fatima held weekly club meetings to discuss and strategize advocacy efforts. During these sessions, she led discussions on key statistics and the benefits of loan forgiveness—highlighting the importance of loan forgiveness in supporting future social workers.
During her time at YC, Fatima also participated in a four-day trip to Selma, Alabama, with the York Contingency to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday. As part of the experience, Fatima and her fellow York Selma contingent walked across the historic Edmund Pettus Bridge, honoring the legacy of the civil rights movement.
“I am incredibly grateful for my undergraduate experiences at YC, as they not only strengthened my foundation as a social work student but also shaped my leadership skills, which have been instrumental in guiding me to where I am today.” Stated Fatima.
