Employed in York’s Office of Public Safety since 2017, Jackson came in part-time basis and was appointed full-time in the spring of 2023. Asked why he thinks he was selected for this honor, Jackson responded with a quote. “Lt. [Carlos] Suarez, tells us, ‘Get up, show up, comply and then complain,’” he recalled with a chuckle. “That is good advice that I follow.”

A former police officer from the country of Jamaica, Jackson explained that coming to work at York has been good for him. “From that day (in 2017), I have forever been blessed,” he said. “God bless this college in our community. Lt. Suarez gave me this shift – 6:30 am to 2:30 pm -  but I will always go above and beyond. My mom told me, ‘Anywhere you work, leave a good mark. Whatever you do, no matter how simple it is, you do it to the best of your ability.’”

According to Lt. Suarez, Jackson was nominated for the Employee-of-the-Month honor by Sgt. William White, Jr. “But we all supported his nomination because he’s someone we can depend on,” said Lt. Suarez. He works well without supervision, knows the college, works well with people and is friendly.”

Amongst the reasons Sgt. White gave for his nomination of his colleague are that he “always goes beyond the call of duty and always seems to have the right word at the right time,” he said. “Even when things get hostile, he remains calm and brings peace to the situation. CSA Jackson displays leadership qualities by offering solutions to issues that arise during the tour.”

During a brief ceremony in the Public Safety vicinity, CSA Jackson was presented with a certificate and plaque of acknowledgment by Carmel Boyle, executive director of Human Resources. The ceremony was attended by several of his immediate colleagues and committee members, who were there to show their support and appreciation for his hard work.

**The Employee-of-the-Month program is an initiative instituted by President Claudia Schrader, designed to acknowledge and celebrate  the hard work of employees across the campus. Each month, an employee will be celebrated for their work in supporting the College’s academic mission.
