York College Nursing Faculty, Graduate Named Delegates to UN Women’s CSW70

The Transcultural Nursing Society (TCNS) has selected two members affiliated with CUNY York College to serve as delegates to the 70th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70), to be held this month at United Nations headquarters in Manhattan.

Among the selected delegates are Dr. Patricia M. Burke, interim Chair and Associate Professor in the Department of Nursing at York College, and Nicele Arana, a recent graduate nurse from York College, both members of TCNS. Both were selected through a process aligned with TCNS's mission and the priority themes of CSW70. These include access to justice for women and girls, the elimination of discriminatory laws and practices, and the advancement of inclusive and equitable systems.

Delegates selected by TCNS will participate in global policy discussions convened by UN Women and engage with representatives from governments, non-governmental organizations, and civil society organizations from around the world. As part of the delegation, participants are expected to represent the values of transcultural nursing and contribute to post-summit knowledge dissemination to TCNS members.

The selection of both nursing faculty and a recent graduate reflects York College's commitment to leadership development, advocacy, and culturally competent nursing education. It also highlights the expanding role of nurses at all stages of practice in advancing equity, justice, and global health dialogue.
