Provost Brazill Honored by City and State as a Pride Trailblazer

Congratulations to Dr. Derrick Brazill, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at York College, on being recognized in this week’s – (June 3) City & State Pride Trailblazers feature. Provost Brazill, was also honored during Pride Month in 2025 by Queens Borough President Donovan Richards for “championing our LGBTQIA+ community.”

 A biologist by training and teaching, Brazill is respected at York College for his commitment to student success, faculty development, and academic excellence. Throughout his tenure at York, he has been a strong advocate for faculty research and scholarship while securing resources that benefit the entire college community. He has received more than $5 million in federal funding to strengthen research infrastructure and support faculty scholarship. He has also helped secure funding for the York STEM Academy and played a key role in developing accelerated pathways to graduate degrees.

A scholar, educator, and advocate, Dr. Brazill continues to advance opportunities for students and faculty while fostering an inclusive and supportive academic environment.
