Dr. Khandaker Earns AEGF BOARD Membership for Excellence in Professional Geology Career

Congratulations to Dr. Nazrul Khandaker on his recent selection as a board member of the Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists Foundation (AEGF).

Dr. Khandaker, a Geology professor at York College/CUNY and a member of the Geological Society of America since 1985, is a dedicated faculty member at both York College and the CUNY Graduate Center. He has published extensively in his field and actively mentors students into meaningful internships and as they transition into professional careers after graduation.

The Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists Foundation (AEGF) is a national professional organization that promotes geoscientific communication related to engineering, environmental issues, and natural hazard characterization and mitigation among practitioners, educators, and students. The foundation recently featured its Board of Directors, including Dr. Khandaker, who joined the Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists (AEG) in 2004 and now serves as a director of the AEG Foundation Board.

“Being at York, it is especially gratifying to receive this recognition, and I hope it will inspire students to consider majoring in geology,” said Dr. Khandaker, who also directs science and aviation training programs for community youth. “AEGF plays a leading role in raising awareness about the critical contributions of engineering geologists to construction projects—from site reconnaissance and selection to planning and implementation. With rapid urbanization and a renewed focus on infrastructure development and maintenance, the need for trained professionals is more important than ever.”
