Young Trailblazer Kamlawattie Singh Set to Graduate with a Focus on International Business

Kamlawattie Singh, affectionately known as Kam, is preparing to graduate from York College in May 2025. She will be the youngest student to complete a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, focusing on International Business. Kam was born in Guyana and moved to the United States at a young age. Her family first lived in New Jersey before settling in New York. Each move brought changes that required adjustment.

Kam is the first in her family to attend college. Earning a degree holds immense value for her and for those around her, underscoring the importance of education. Outside class, she listens to music, watches films and shows, and draws. These activities provide her with time away from her studies.

Her enrollment at York College was not part of her original plan. She once passed the campus without interest. Later, events led her to enroll. Her first year included classroom learning, but she later chose online courses. This option gave her more control over studying and managing her time.

Kam joined the National Association of Black Accountants, which helped her meet people in her field. The group also gave her experience to include on her resume. She later took part in an internship through CUNY. The work she did during the internship helped her apply lessons from class.

While at York, Kam did not join many structured programs. Instead, she used available resources to stay on track, demonstrating her commitment to her studies. She met with advisors through the ACE program and attended sessions focused on jobs and preparation. She enrolled in six courses each term to finish school ahead of schedule. Test periods brought high workloads, but she stayed on task and completed her goals. She views this part of her education as both a task and an outcome.

Kam sees her early graduation as something that shows her ability to meet her goals. She believes this approach will help her after school. With her degree, she wants to travel and work in different regions. She plans to find roles that connect markets and people. She also wants to manage her finances through work that brings a steady income.

Her next step is to pursue an MBA. She is considering a focus on Management or Finance. Baruch College is one school she may attend. She is also considering working outside the country that serves people or natural systems.

Kam offers guidance to other students. She recommends finding your own pace, staying open to change, and using every opening that presents itself. She encourages others to try internships, study in other countries, and gain skills through work while still in school. She says these steps can help shape the future. To those nearing the end of their programs, she says to keep going and think about the results that come after. For her, that result is a sense of calm and purpose.

Kam’s time at York reflects steady work and commitment. She sees this as one step in a larger journey as she prepares to finish.
