York College Honors the Class of 2025 Social Work Graduates

York College proudly celebrated the exceptional achievements of the Class of 2025 graduates from both the Bachelor of Science and Master of Social Work programs. The event was filled with heartfelt moments, inspiring words, and well-deserved recognition of the graduates’ perseverance and dedication.

Our Founding Director, Dr. Selena T. Rodgers, joined by esteemed faculty and colleagues, opened the ceremony with warm welcome remarks and deep expressions of gratitude for the graduates' unwavering commitment to higher education. As they reminded the audience, being a social worker is far from easy—these graduates have chosen a path that requires resilience, compassion, and an unshakable drive to serve. “The social work team is my superpower. Together, we prepare York scholars to take flight and transform lives! I am also forever grateful for the many scholars who return to York to support the next generation of leaders. Finally, thank you to the York village for helping make the momentous occasion a success.”

Many students surpassed expectations, with some even completing their licensing exams before officially graduating—an extraordinary feat that speaks volumes about their determination and readiness for the field.

The celebration was further enriched by guest speaker and York alumnus, Durrell Malik Washington, Sr., who returned to share insight from his professional journey and to reflect on how his time at York laid the foundation for a purposeful career in social work.

Students were honored with academic awards and special recognitions, acknowledging not just their academic success but also their service, leadership, and integrity. Students were also acknowledged during the ceremony for the Phi Alpha National Honor Society, symbolizing their entry into a lifelong community of social work professionals committed to service and social justice.

As President Claudia Schrader gave her remarks, she reminded us with a smile, “If you don’t think you can make an impact, try hanging out with a mosquito.”

Congratulations to the Bachelor and Master of Social Work graduates of the Class of 2025! Your work matters, your voices are powerful, and your future is bright.
