Queens Borough President to Honor York College Provost at Pride Month Celebration

Congratulations to York College Provost Derrick T. Brazill, who will be honored by Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, Jr. at his annual Pride celebration!

Dr. Brazill, who is not only the provost at York College, but also its vice president of Academic Affairs, is grateful for the recognition of his commitment to diversity in all its forms.

“I am deeply honored and humbled to be chosen as an honoree,” said Brazill. “To be recognized among such powerful, passionate, and resilient LGBTQ+ leaders, is not only a privilege, it is a profound reminder of how far we’ve come, and how much further we must go together. This moment is not just personal; it’s a celebration of visibility, advocacy, and unity. It reflects the inclusive values we uphold at York College and reinforces our commitment to supporting and uplifting LGBTQ+ voices, both on campus and across our communities.”

For Borough President Richards, honoring Provost Brazill was a natural choice. “We’re thrilled to be honoring Provost Derrick Brazill at our office’s annual Pride Month celebration,” said the Borough President. “All of us in Queens are deeply grateful for Derrick’s incredible work each day uplifting our students and future leaders at York College, championing our LGBTQIA+ community, and making Queens a better place to live, work, and get an education. We look forward to commemorating those accomplishments and more at Queens Borough Hall in just a few short days.”

The event will take place at 6 pm on Wednesday, June 11 at the Helen Marshall Cultural Center at Queens Borough Hall; 120-55 Queens Boulevard, Kew Gardens. The celebration honors “local LGBTQIA+ Leaders.” To attend the ceremony in support of Provost Brazill and his fellow-honorees, RSVP at queensbp.nyc.gov/rsvp.

York College congratulates all of the honorees and thanks them for their service to our diverse borough of Queens!
