Sunny Tries to Tame a Wound: Dr. Ramos Releases Latest Poetry Collection

Dr. Juana Ramos's latest collection, Sunny intenta amansar una herida/Sunny tenta apaziguar uma ferida (English translation: Sunny Tries to Tame a Wound), has been published by Ediciones El Pez Soluble, in San Salvador, El Salvador, in September 2025.

Professor Ramos says it is a new bilingual publication, Spanish-Portuguese. The book was translated by well-known Brazilian poet, translator, and essayist Floriano Martins. Costa Rican poet and editor, Melvyn Aguilar, wrote about this poetry collection: "In Sunny intenta amansar una herida/Sunny tenta apaziguar uma ferida Ramos contemplates existence and its consequences as she seeks to tame a wound. She explores, from and for herself, the tension that comes with being, probing the oscillating nature of the human being; and that in this inner journey, she gifts us a consistent, heartfelt, and vibrant collection of poems, the core of which aligns with the harshness of her discoveries, resonating with echoes that remind us of certain voices and archetypes."

Dr. Ramos, an associate professor and Spanish coordinator in the Department of World Languages, Literature and Humanities at York, states that “This book takes us on a journey that charts the pain stemming from the various dimensions of the human experience. It encourages us to reflect on our misjudgments and good decisions in their entirety, recognizing our place within the vast cosmos. Additionally, this book honors the holistic and systematic perspective that traditional Chinese medicine holds regarding the human body."
