Beloved York Professor and Poet Publishes Insightful New Poetry Collection

Congratulations to Dr. Juana M. Ramos of the Department of World Languages, Literatures, and Humanities on the recent publication of her poetry collection.

“Una Conversacion pendiente / Unfinished Conversation,” published by Nueva York Poetry Press, a publishing house based in New York City, showcases “a powerful collaboration” between Dr. Ramos and Dr. Diana Conchado, Associate Professor at Hunter College, who “skillfully translated,” the poems into English.

As Argentine editor and poet Marisa Russo noted, “This bilingual work brings together 35 poems that intertwine intimate and collective memory in a lyrical conversation with wounds, exiles, childhood, and the persistence of the self. This edition is part of our ‘Museo Salvaje’ collection (Latin American Poetry), dedicated to writings that challenge the limits of language and honor the poetic legacy of Olga Orozco. With a preface by renowned essayist Rafael Lara-Martínez and a cover image by artist Melvyn Aguilar, this book embodies the strength of an author who has managed to make words a space of resistance, dignity, and beauty.”

According to Dr. Ramos, associate professor of Literature and Spanish at York, the project was several years in the making, and she is thrilled to see it finally come to fruition. The collection features both new poems and previously published pieces that, “have truly found a home” in this volume.

“This book is significant as it brings together a collection of poems that deeply explore the human condition,” says Dr. Ramos. “It sheds light on how identity is shaped through the myriad life experiences we encounter. Each poem serves as a reflection of our shared struggles and the complexities of existence, inviting readers to connect with their own experiences.” Professor Ramos says the collection is now available on Amazon.
