Students and Faculty Attend Prestigious Leadership Summit in Texas

Two York College professors recently led a delegation of 15 accounting students for the Deloitte MADE Leadership Summit for a weekend of learning.

York Accounting Professors Professors Chaitanand Radhamohan and Dr. Chris Hsu take 15 Accounting majors to Texas for co-curricular experiences at Deloitte Summit.

Professor Chaitanand Radhamohan and Dr. Chris Hsu from York’s Department of Accounting and Finance took the students to the Summit at Deloitte University’s cutting-edge 250-acre leadership center. Completely sponsored by Deloitte, the October 25-26 event exemplified the firm’s MADE (Making Accounting Diverse and Equitable) initiative, which “aims to empower diverse young talent in accounting.”

The summit brought together students and faculty from across the country to connect with Deloitte leaders and pioneers in the accounting industry. According to Dr. Hsu, throughout the two-day event, students were inspired by powerful keynote speakers, engaged in interactive, game-based accounting sessions, and participated in programming designed to enhance their leadership skills and highlight the dynamic opportunities within the accounting profession.

Faculty members also had dedicated sessions to discuss innovative approaches, including the integration of AI into accounting education. Professor Radhamohan, who previously held a managerial role at Deloitte, expressed his excitement. “I had the chance to visit Deloitte University during my tenure with Deloitte,” he said. “And I am thrilled that our students now have the opportunity to experience this world-class facility.”

This is the second consecutive year York College students have attended the Deloitte MADE Leadership Summit. "We’re grateful to Deloitte for their continued support and their investment in our students’ future," said Professor Hsu. “Connecting York College students with industry leaders and giving them first-hand experience in a top-tier professional setting represents an invaluable step in fostering the next generation of accounting professionals.”

Accounting major Payoshni Andrea Ramdeen, a junior, raved about the Deloitte weekend in Texas. “Before attending the Deloitte MADE program, I was uncertain about which career path in accounting I wanted to pursue,” she said. “However, the program provided me with valuable insights into various opportunities that align with my interests. It broadened my perspective and deepened my passion for accounting, motivating me to further my education and work towards obtaining my CPA.”

Jacqueline Robles, a senior in the accounting program at York College, also appreciated the Deloitte MADE weekend. “Attending the Deloitte MADE summit was a truly impactful experience,” said Robles upon her return to York’s campus. “Meeting and networking with other accounting students from across the country broadened my perspective and gave me insights that I wouldn’t have otherwise [experienced]. It highlighted the unique strengths of York’s accounting program, such as the dedicated staff that personally reached out to Deloitte to obtain additional seats for York students. I also have a newly found appreciation for York's small classroom sizes, which made it possible for me to stand out and be selected for this opportunity. I'm especially grateful to Professor Andy for his encouragement in helping me take part in this incredible event.”
