The new BMus. (pronounced bee-mews) in Music Education is aimed at preparing students to be pre-K –12 teachers for a career in music education, focusing on popular music. Students will learn how to teach music, appreciation and theory using cutting edge production tools through popular music to meet the growing demand. In addition, the newly rebranded BMus. in Music Performance prepares students for a life of making music, also focused on popular music. Associate Professor Tom Zlabinger has said, “…York College music education grads are uniquely positioned to be able to instruct students with popular music, which prepares students to make the music they love which increases student engagement. Popular music is a much larger industry than the other typical traditions, allowing our graduating teachers to make their students more college and career ready.”
The York community is excited about these degrees and looks forward to the potential of its graduates to transform future artists.
