Chemistry Professor Zhu Zhou Honored

Dr. Zhu Zhou has been elected for two prestigious positions within the Chemistry Community. Firstly, she has been elected as Vice-Chair for the Regulatory Science Community at the American Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics.

According to Dr. Emmanuel Chang, department chair of Chemistry at York, the group represents a diverse community of scientists from the biopharmaceutical industry, government, and academia who are interested in the science of clinical pharmacology and translational medicine and the application to the drug development process, with an aim to enhance patient care.

"Dr. Zhou has been an outstanding contributor to the department since she joined us in 2019," says Chang. "I am proud that Dr. Zhou is able to represent York and the department of Chemistry through these prestigious offices in professional societies."

In her role as Vice-chair, Dr. Zhou, who holds the Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Science, with a research focus in Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics, will provide leadership through meeting organizations and advance the scientific expertise in regulatory science by promoting collaboration between academic, industrial, and regulatory scientists.

Additionally, Zhu was has been elected Vice President for Education for the American Chinese Pharmaceutical Science Association (ACPA). The ACPA is said to provide a dynamic national and international forum “for the exchange of knowledge among scientists of Chinese heritage to enhance their contributions to health.” In this capacity, the York professor will play a key role in promoting science and providing quality programming to the ACPA members, the scientific community, and the public in general.

Professor Zhu praises the support she received from York Faculty as she believes that it played a large role in her success.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank my department, my chair, Dr. Chang and my mentor, Dr. Ruel Desamero,” says Zhou, who is widely published in her field. “Coming from California, I was on my second semester here (and in New York) when the pandemic happened; so I am still new to many things. Without their support, I am not able to make this achievement. I also would like to thank Provost Brazill. It is his support to let me continue to get involved in the national and international organization. Last but not least, without the support from the leadership of our [college], I cannot get this recognition. Thank you all for your guidance, support, and help. Much appreciated."

Congratulations to Dr. Zhou and the Chemistry department!
