Notice of Interest Form for Two Year Appointments

Notice of Interest Form

As many of you are aware, the 2010-2017 Memorandum of Agreement between The City University of New York and The Professional Staff Congress/CUNY provides for the implementation of a five year pilot program which will afford teaching adjuncts the opportunity to hold multi-year appointments beginning with the 2016-2017 academic year through the end of the 2020-2021 academic year.

An employee who has served as a teaching adjunct and who has taught at least six (6) contact teaching hours per semester within the same department of the college for the ten most recent semesters (excluding summer sessions) preceding the effective date of the three-year appointment shall be considered for a three-year appointment, subject to a comprehensive review and assessment of the adjunct’s performance and the fiscal and programmatic needs of the department and/or college.  The first three-year appointments will begin in the Fall 2017 semester.

As a one-time transition to the three-year appointment pilot program, adjuncts who were eligible for a two-semester appointment for the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 semesters under Article 10.1.(a) 3, who state their interest in a two-year appointment (2016-17 and 2017-18) and meet the following criteria will receive a two-year appointment without the necessity of a comprehensive review, but subject to sufficiency of registration and changes in curriculum.  The following criteria must be met for an Adjunct to be eligible for a two-year teaching appointment:

  • An adjunct must be eligible for a two-semester appointment for the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 semesters under Article 10.1.(a) 3, by virtue of having taught as an adjunct in the same department for at least six (6) consecutive semesters (exclusive of the summer sessions) preceding the Fall 2016 semester.  York College Adjuncts who met these criteria were notified of their Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 reappointment in April, 2016.
  • Of the six (6) semesters preceding Fall 2016, the adjunct must have taught at least six (6) classroom contact hours in the same department in Fall 2014, Spring 2015, Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 semesters, and one or more courses in Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 semesters.
  • An adjunct must have taught at least six (6) contact hours in the same department in at least ten (10) out of the fourteen (14) Fall and Spring semesters during the period Fall 2007 through Spring 2014.  Up to four (4) semesters of substitute service in a teaching title within the same department may be counted towards qualifying service.

In addition to meeting the above criteria, the Adjunct must proactively submit a Notice of Interest Form to the Office of Human Resources no later than Monday, October 17, 2016, indicating his/her interest in the two-year appointment in order to be considered.  Adjuncts who receive an initial two-year appointment will receive a comprehensive review during the two-year period and will be considered for a three-year appointment effective beginning in the 2018-19 academic year.

Please share this information with adjuncts that may be eligible and are interested in a two-year appointment for the 2016-17 and 2017-18 academic years and make copies of the Notice of Interest Form available in your offices.  Forms can also be accessed from the Human Resources web-site or in the Human Resources office, located in room AC-2H01.
