PFA Day
Celebrate York College's Performing and Fine Arts Department (PFA) and public art with fun activities led by the Roving Reverie Research Team and Southeast Queens Artist Alliance (SeQAA)!
All are welcome! If you're not affiliated with York College, please register to attend.
Snacks and refreshments from Sweet Treats Delight will be served!
SeQAA artists Sherese Francis, Rejin Leys, Jacqueline Herranz-Brooks and Elizabeth Velazquez host Roving Reverie, a series of art-making activities designed around three monumental commissions of public art designed for the campus between 1984 and 1988: Martin Puryear's Ark, Houston Conwill's Arc and Sam Gilliam's Solar Canopy. York College's 2024-2025 CUNY Dance Initiative Artist-in-Residence, interdisciplinary artist Sugar Vendil, hosts a workshop on improvisation techniques, interacting with SeQAA activities.
York College faculty and students showcase creative experiments with playful, contemplative strategies, including sound studies with Professor Cory Kasprzyk (Music), augmented reality with Professor Caroline Voagen Nelson (Communications Technology), and visionary sketches with Professors Nina Buxenbaum and Carlos Sandoval de Leon (Studio Arts). Professor Tom Zlabinger leads a special recital with York College Music students.
Participate in a free raffle for Roving Reverie swag co-designed by the Roving Reverie Research Team: York students and alum Taylormarie Bittan, DeShauna Carr, Midas Moon, Jayden Rampersad, Julian Ubiles and Kemi Yusuff.
This event is organized by the York College Art History Program (Coordinator, Professor Emily Verla Bovino) with funds from the York College Strategic Initiatives Fund Grant and support from the CUNY Dance Initiative at Queens College. Special thanks to Professors Michael Smith, Fawwaz Allie and Nicholas Fraser for their support. Joshua Warner (Theatre) designed the special zine map.
