The Ultimate Librarian Seminar
Presenter: Dr. Junli Diao York College Library
"Teachers are made, not born." (Haystead, 2010) This powerful statement emphasizes that teaching is not an innate skill, but a process of learning and growth. Becoming a teacher requires years of training, a passion for the profession, and the adaptability to face new challenges, even when we aren't trained for every circumstance that arises.
This talk will explore a doctoral project that used action research as a model, with building a professional learning community (PLC) as the intervention to address gaps in teaching preparation. We’ll cover key topics such as: how the gap was identified, how the problem of practice was framed, how intervention options were optimized, and why the action should be seen as a combination of both process and outcome, among other insights.
If you're curious about the answers to these questions, we invite you to join our discussion. Action research is a natural ally for teachers, helping us improve the quality of our professional lives while simultaneously producing meaningful scholarship.
