As a vital part of the Southeast Queens community, York College Learning Center is a comprehensive multi-service center whose doors are open to any individual or group wishing to realize personal change and independence or wishing to respond to the community’s needs constructively through education, training and counseling.

Classroom Instruction

  • Adult Basic Education (ABE) helps students improve their reading, writing and math skills.
  • English as a Second Language (ESL) and English Language and Civics Education (EL-CIVICS) classes will help immigrants develop English language and literacy skills. Students will learn to speak and understand English as they learn in real-life situations, including job-readiness, civics, citizenship skills, and healthcare.
  • High School Equivalency (HSE) classes prepare students to pass the High School Equivalency Exam.
  • Technology is fully integrated into our instructional offerings.

Counseling/Case Management

  • Educational, vocational and personal counseling are offered by multi-lingual staff. Referrals to child care services available.

Career Counseling

  • Computer-based career exploration, pre-employment counseling, i.e. resume preparation, interviewing skills, and job search are provided.

Job Training Referrals

  • Individuals in need of job training are referred to free training programs, including Queens Workforce1 Career Center and Goodwill Industries International.

Literacy Zone

  • Coordinating with community partners, our Literacy Zone (Literacy for Life) provides referrals for our students and community members to an array of lifelong services.

Pre-College Counseling

  • College and Career Knowledge (CCK) workshops, college application assistance, admissions, financial aid counseling, and college tours are offered.
