Alexandra Laviscount-Jones Honored as Employee of the Month

Alexandra Laviscount-Jones was named York College’s Employee of the Month for August 2025 by the Employee of the Month Committee. The recognition was celebrated in a touching presentation ceremony held in the Bursar’s Office, where she works.
As is customary, President Claudia Schrader was in attendance reading the committee’s nomination narrative and presenting the certificate to the appreciative honoree, who teared up throughout the president’s remarks. Those who receive this acknowledgment are often deeply moved, realizing in that moment how much their efforts are valued by their department and the college community.
“Alexandra constantly maintains a top-notch level of professionalism, applying fundamental practices associated with her duties as an assistant to the bursar,” President Schrader read from the nomination letter. Laviscount-Jones, who began her York career nearly 20 years ago as a college assistant, was praised for being “cognizant of the objectives, practices, and procedures concerning her job duties” and for “continuously providing high-quality service to the college community by demonstrating a deep commitment and understanding in addressing the needs of students, faculty, and staff.”

Laviscount-Jones was further described as “dependable and proactive,” as well as “willing to liaise with the college community and various third-party agencies, which ultimately supports the goals of the Office of the Bursar.”
The honoree admitted she was “a bit overwhelmed,” and her words reflected that emotion.
“We are not only a team but truly a family in this office,” said Laviscount-Jones. “I have the pleasure of working with an amazing group of dedicated women. I have learned so much over the years from my colleagues, my direct supervisor, Georgia Hanson, and our Bursar Director, Yvette Williamson.”
She also shared what the recognition means to her:
“It is encouraging to be appreciated for your hard work and contributions,” Laviscount-Jones said. “I’d like to especially thank Georgia Hanson for nominating me. President Schrader’s initiative to have an Employee of the Month program is exciting and a great morale booster. I’m very proud and humbled to be selected for August and look forward to continuing to represent the Office of the Bursar and serve York College students to the best of my ability.”
Laviscount-Jones has indeed lived up to the descriptions her colleagues attributed to her. “Alexandra has illustrated her dedication to the mission of the university by working tirelessly to obtain funding from programs within the college as well as from more than 20 third-party organizations. Her ability to think outside the box and implement effective solutions has made a positive impact on students and contributes to the overall success of York College.”
