Graduation

Graduating and Commencement

There are four graduating periods each year: August, January, February, and May. However, there is only one commencement exercise in May.

Applying for Graduation

Students are required to apply for graduation on CUNYfirst during the semester prior to the semester in which they plan to complete their degree requirements for graduation. (See College Academic Calendar for exact application deadline date.) Students can apply for graduation on CUNYfirst via the Student Center or Self Service.

Graduation in Absentia

Students who will not be in attendance at York when completing their final requirements must first receive permission from the Registrar to graduate in absentia and apply online in CUNYfirst.

Defer Graduation

Students who have applied for graduation, but wish to defer their application for graduation to a later semester.

Diploma

Information on diplomas and how to order a duplicate diploma

Diploma (Current York College Graduates)

Your diploma will be mailed to your home address on file within 3 months after your graduation/conferral date, provided that you do not have a Financial Aid Exit Interview hold on your record. Please check your CUNYfirst Student Center to make sure that your primary name, Home address, preferred email address and mobile number on file are correct. Students will receive an email notification to their preferred email address and a text message (if your mobile number exists in CUNYfirst) once the diploma has been ordered with additional information.

Order a Duplicate Diploma (Prior York College Graduates)

There is a $30 fee per duplicate diploma requested. If ordering more than one diploma, please adjust the quantity accordingly. Information on accessing your digital diploma will be sent to you by email and mobile text (if a cell phone number was provided on the order) once the order is placed within 2 weeks. A printed diploma will be mailed to the address provided within 6 weeks from the order date.
