Due to the risks associated with large number of student participation under the current threat of Global Pandemic caused by the COVID-19 virus, we are cancelling the 11th Annual Undergraduate Research Day Event originally scheduled for Thursday April 30, 2020.

Penn Honors Diversity (PHD) Symposium

The 2016 PHD Symposium, organized in conjunction with many of the PhD programs at Penn, will emphasize student diversity and aims to particularly attract underrepresented students (especially sophomores and juniors) at colleges and universities in the Mid-Atlantic states who are interested in learning more about graduate school in general, and at Penn specifically.

The PHD Symposium is a two-day plus program designed to provide a venue for the students to (a) network with faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students, (b) learn from them about cutting-edge research and PhD training opportunities here at Penn, (c) present their work to faculty and students in a poster session, and (d) attend workshops and seminars about the admissions process, funding opportunities, life as a graduate student, etc.

The application is now open. Applicants from the Mid-Atlantic states are encouraged to apply; preference will be given to students from surrounding undergraduate institutions within a 4 hour drive or train ride. Students will be notified about the status of their application in early May.

The deadline for online application is April 15, 2016, and acceptances will be announced by early May. Travel awards and hotel will be provided for all accepted students and invited program directors/faculty

Additional information will follow soon, but feel free to ask questions by contacting us at

Full information, including the online application, is available on the PhD Symposium website at
