NYC Service, a division of the Office of the Mayor, launched in April 2009 in response to President Barack Obama's national call for volunteerism and a goal of engaging 100 million Americans in service by 2020. New York City was the first “City of Service” and since NYC Service launched five six years ago, over 190 200 U.S. cities have joined the Cities of Service network. NYC Service promotes volunteerism and service as a catalyst for civic engagement. We connect volunteers and service year members with City agencies and Community-Based Organizations to create Volunteer Impact Initiatives and Service Year Programs that improve education, economic empowerment, neighborhood development, environment, health, as well as emergency preparedness and response for all City residents. Individuals served and those who volunteer benefit, making volunteering good for you and good for your city.
Idealist is all about connecting idealists - people who want to do good - with opportunities for action and collaboration. With more than 100,000 organizations and 1.4 million monthly visitors to our English, Spanish (idealistas.org), and French (idealiste.org) sites, Idealist helps people move from intention to action all over the world.
