York's Service Learning Advisory Board has formulated criteria for courses to be designated as service-learning on an ad hoc basis, as well as put together resources for support of pedagogy and scholarship.

An integral component to all service-learning courses is the opportunity to reflect in written and/or oral form, making a thoughtful connection between the work done in and out of the classroom.
