Student Registration

Student application for Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS).

Be sure to upload all documents as a PDF (preferred) or DOC with the Following Format: "Your Last Name-Your First Name- Document Name". Photos must be submitted as a .jpg or .img.

York College of The City University of New York has been selected by the National Science Teachers Association to organize and host the 2022 New York City Metro and NY Long Island regional Junior Science Humanities Symposium (NYCM JSHS and NYLI JSHS). The NYCM JSHS and NYLI JSHS will select the students who will represent their respective regions at the National Junior Science and Humanity Symposium organized by the Academy of Applied Sciences to be held April 20-23, 2022, as an in person competition in Albuquerque, NM. 
 
All high school students in grades 9-12 from the NY Long Island and NYC Metropolitan areas are eligible to participate in the symposium.  All students must submit a research paper that will be reviewed and evaluated by college faculty and practicing scientists and engineers. The students who submit the best papers will be invited to participate in the virtual Symposium to make a short seminar presentation on February 6, 2022 (12-minute presentation, 6-minute question, and answers). The semi-finalists will then present in person on February 26, 2022.
 
Judging committees comprised of college faculty, practicing scientists, engineers, and other professionals following the guidelines of the National JSHS, will evaluate the presentations and select the high school students (junior scientists) who will represent New York City Metro and NY Long Island regions at the National Symposium. High school students will be eligible for awards according to the National Science Teachers Association policies.

Instructions

Please note: Your submission may be for:

  • Individual research
  • A team or group research project
  • Individual contribution to research conducted by a team or group project

Teams or groups that wish to submit an entry must choose one presenter to represent them in the regional and national symposium. There cannot be multiple entries and multiple presenters for one research project.

Be sure to submit all required documentation before the deadline, missing documents will result in your registration being canceled.
