York College Middle States Self-Evaluation Committee (May 2, 2006). Worked as a committee member for Standard 10 (Faculty Development) and provided background information on the availability of resources at York College for encouraging faculty to get involved with curriculum development and research. This was an important project that engaged the total campus community and assisted towards the accreditation (The Middle States Commission on Higher Education) in the spring of 2008.: 2006.

General Education Program Review Committee. Focusing on a review of General Education programs within the context of the Coordinated Undergraduate Education (CUE) Initiative. 2005-2007. The committee is evaluating the current General Education curriculum in light of various University and College policies (e.g. CPE, WAC), its relationship to major programs, the transferability of courses from other campuses. Further, preparation for future Middle States accreditation visits requires that the General Education Committee develop assessment activities that consider whether the objectives of our General Education program are realized.: 2005-2006.

Khandaker conducted seven topical sessions with particular focus on the early involvement of undergraduates and K-12 students in geological and environmental aspects. All these sessions were sponsored by the GSA Geoscience Education Division, NAGT (National Association of Geoscience Teachers), and GSA Geology and Society Division. Chair (2007-2008): Committee On Minorities And Women In The Geosciences. Geological Society of America. Responsibilities include: work with associated professional societies (e.g., American Geophysical Union, Association for Women Geoscientists, American Geological Institute, Geological Society of America), city and federal agencies, and private organizations to find ways to increase the representation and visibility of people of ethnic minority, women, and persons with disabilities in the geosciences. Organized Geoscience Day for local K6-8 students in Denver (2007); chaired the Inaugural Bromery Award (recognizes the outstanding education and service contributions and commitment to the advancement of minorities that characterized Bill Bromery's career) for Minorities selection committee. Geological Consultant: New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP): Directly involved with the City Water Tunnel # 3, one of the largest capital construction projects, ever undertaken by the City of New York. Responsibilities included soil and rock characterization, thin section preparation and analysis, detailed petrographic reports including digital microphotographic images, chemical analysis (both bulk oxide and trace elements) of rocks and minerals, grain size analysis of unconsolidated materials, detailed surface and subsurface (tunnel) mapping, and geotechnical reports and consultation. ASTM Standards were strictly followed in all laboratory investigations. The Geology discipline at York has motivated undergraduate geology majors who can actively participate in all aspects of geological investigations and gain invaluable research experience for pursuing careers/advanced degrees in Geology. Both Drs. Khandaker and Schleifer (Earth and Physical Sciences Department at York College) have, and continue to provide sound geological information for the Joint-Venture and NYCDEP.: 2001-2008.

Director, York College SEMAA (Science, Engineering, Aerospace, & Mathematics Academy) Program, (NASA-funded). Since the commencement (1999) of the SEMAA Program at York College, well-over 17,000 students (Grade 1-9) from the local community participated in the SEMAA Program. Of particular interest to this York SEMAA, was the NASA SEMAA FAMILY LEADERSHIP Award presentation to Mrs. Unadai Deepan (York SEMAA Family Café coordinator) in 2006. The award is given to Family Café coordinator for her long-term participation in the NASA SEMAA Project and Leadership in supporting the nation’s next generation of explorers. This recognition on a national-level, brought prestige to York College SEMAA Program. Currently York College is the only NASA-sponsored site offering this outreach program within the CUNY system.: 2012- 2015.
