George Lam was born in Hong Kong, grew up in both Hong Kong and Boston, MA, and holds a PhD in music composition from Duke University. Prof. Lam's recent works explore the intersection between music, theater, and the documentary. George Lam's music has been performed by the New Morse Code (Lawrence, KS), Chautauqua Opera Company, the Oak Middle School Band (Shrewsbury, MA), University of Idaho Wind Ensemble (Moscow, ID), Black House Collective (Kansas City, MO), Romer String Quartet (Hong Kong, China), Asian Young Musicians' Connection (Taipei, Taiwan), Gotham Chamber Opera (New York, NY), Christ Church United Methodist (New York, NY), and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta. George Lam is Assistant Professor of Music and Coordinator of the Music Program at York College, as well as a co-artistic director of the NYC-based new opera ensemble Rhymes With Opera.
